Tanya Byron, the well known British television psychologist, talks about her latest role as the Government’s family internet mentor.

After her nearly one year’s research and investigation about teenagers and internet usage, “open a web browser and you walk through a global front door,” she says, “letting your kids use the web completely unsupervised is like opening your own doorand saying “They don’t know how to cross the road but they’ ll work it out”. And she also insist her viewpoint that it’s down to parents to protect their children, whether it’s online or on the street.

Teenagers are increasingly being lured into the alluring world of the internet, where they are willingly revealing personal information to complete strangers, and are completely nonchalant about it. It was previously thought that teenagers were duped into revealing personal information by sexual predators posing as teenagers themselves. But recent studies have shown that in most cases, these teenagers are aware that they are creating online friendships with complete strangers, and chatting with adults more than double their age. In spite of knowing these things, they are blissfully ignorant of the dangers of the internet. In spite of constant parental
monitoring, a number of teenagers are falling prey to online sexual predators, and are becoming victims of child abuse. With the advent and widespread usage of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter,MySpace, Orkut and LinkedIn, teenagers have become more vulnerable to the dangers of the internet.

What parents need to know of surfing with security

Treat the online world as you would the real world: make sure you know something about what you’re children are doing.

Ask your children to show you at least some of what they do a computer, but respect their right to privacy.

Put the family computer in a public place.

Use a web filtering program or parental control software (see Best Buy) to make sure your children can’t access potentially disturbing content online.

Treat the internet primarily as a resource. If your children use it to help each other with their homework, for example, ask how best to manage that, rather than assuming it’s a bad thing.

The Internet is a wild, wild place. It has plenty of advantages for sure but it also has its fair share of disadvantages, traps and scams. It is hardly an ideal place to let kids roam around unwatched. They can learn a lot from the Internet these days. The nature of what they learn is mostly up to the parents’ monitoring and guides, especially when kids are young.

As parents of two children, 10 years and 18 months, my husband and I worry about how our children will spend their time at our computer. When they comes to the older child, we especially worry about their access to mature adult content, then we get to parental control software.

Things to know about PC monitoring software for children is rather simple. Parents must decide what exactly they wish to accomplish with this software. It is a given that they want it to help protect their children from harmful things that they might find on the Internet.

There are a number of parental control software packages and some tools designed to assist parents in this very task.

Parents will find available programs such as SpyAgent keylogger that make the user name invisible. But when monitoring their children’s time on the computer without looking over their shoulder all the time a keylogger is quite useful. This type of program is able to track all web pages, emails that have been read or sent, and instant messenger conversation from both sides. Parents also want to be able to block unfavorable sites.

Web filter software provides the parents with a way to block sites they don’t want their children to go to, and the tools to help protect the children. The parents can set necessary restrictions while their children are using the computer, and parents are able to keep their children from harmful or illegal things that a child might innocently get into.

It becomes necessary for parents to protect their children while the home equipment is available, the device that a parent purchases should cover all the protection they want. Many parental controls provide all what parents need, even an option for the parent to remote monitor their children’s computer usage while they are at work.

Using a computer can be an extremely enriching experience, especially for young people. Using this technology to explore, learn, and have fun whether on the internet or playing games creates an environment where learning can be exciting. As with all things our children experience, we parents want to be both involved and set limits on what they are doing on their own – especially at a young age.

Why do we need parental controls? Consider this analogy: As we teach our kids to ride a bike, we put on training wheels and supervise them as they ride up and down our driveway. Soon we give them more autonomy letting them ride up and down the street and later around the block unsupervised. Eventually we take off the training wheels completely.

Similarly we also want to slowly introduce our kids to computing and the internet. We can’t hover over their shoulder watching and instructing every move they make but we can still be involved. Using technology such as parental controls will allow you to give your kids some autonomy to explore within the limits we set for them, and spur discussion when they reach those limits.

With Windows, Microsoft’s offerings have been historically lackluster. The release of Windows 7 is just months away and through release candidate testing it’s clear that Microsoft has made massive amounts of improvements to their core product. It’s also nice to see that parental controls have received the same amount of attention.

Here we take a look at the particular steps of setting Parental controls in Win7.
Parental Controls

To access Parental Controls open the Start Menu and type parental controls into the Search box and hit Enter. Alternatively you can open Control Panel and click on Parental Controls.

When you open Parental Controls, click on the child’s account you want to set up.

Make sure to password protect your Administrator account…otherwise anyone can turn off Parental Controls and use the computer with no restrictions.

If you see a password hasn’t been set when you go into Parental Controls, click on the message and you’ll be prompted and Ensure Administrator Passwords.

Under Parental Controls mark the radio button next to On, enforce current settings. Then you can go through and control their computer time, games, and programs.

Set Time Limits

Click on Time limits to control when your child has access to the computer. If you want to only allow a few hours each day, it’s easiest to left-click and drag the mouse across all of the time slots to block them. Then allow the time blocks when you want to make the computer available.

Control Games

Click on Games to control the type of access your child has to games on the computer. You can completely block all games or select games by ratings and game names. These game ratings are based on the Entertainment Software Rating Board.

You can also select different game rating systems if it’s more appropriate for your location or if you like a certain system better than another.

You can also block games based on the type of content it contains…and it gives you a lot of choices.

Control Programs

If you want to restrict certain programs on the machine, click on Allow and block specified programs then scroll through the list of installed programs and block them.

Additional Controls

Windows 7 doesn’t have a Web Filter included like Vista did. If you want additional controls like Web Filtering and activity reports, you’ll need to install a third party software- Aobo porn filter or SentryPC parental cnontrol software. With it you can block access to certain sites and also get access to an activity report that shows you what sites your children have been visiting.

Here we discuss how to block porn websites from your computer.

Questions about blocking porn sites:
How do i block porn websites?
How do I block porn from my computer, so I can’t see it?
How can i block my computer for browsing porn sites?
How to block porn on windows 7?
How do you block lesbian porn sites?

An hour ago I caught my sister Sydney watching lesbian porn and masturbating with a strap on dildo. What should I do? because she’s too young to be exposed to sexual contents on the internet. And it’s a bad example for my little sister. Should I plug out her pc?

For Firefox only users: block porn adverts with free Adblock plus.

If you’re seeking to block porn adverts you can do so with Adblock plus in firefox. Its a free plugin/add-on

Block porn sites to protect children
if you’re wishing to block porn sites in order to prevent children or something from viewing them you can use programs like net nanny, or even web site filters built into most web browsers.

Only allow specified websites in IE?
With the built in filters, essentially you only allow unrestricted access to websites on the "allowed" list and the rest need a password to access. To find it in IE8, press alt, click on tools, then click internet options, then click the tab that says content. There will be your settings for parental controls.

Depends on the method of blocking. Any site, and I do mean ANY site, can be blocked. It just depends on how intelligent your network administrator is. But the blocking can be bypassed too, it depends on how intelligent the user who wants to visit porn.

If you’re looking at trying to circumvent a block on a network other than your own you might consider setting up a proxy server on your home machine. This would allow you to use it as a gateway to access any site regardless of the network block at work. Well, until they block your proxy server.

But if you choose the Porn filter from Aobo software, you will see that no one can bypass the filter with a Proxy through Aobo Porn Filter.

Why? Because Aobo Porn filter blocks the porn websites by keywords, it will block the webpage when porn keywords are found. Aobo Porn Filter works with all popular web browsers. It can:

Filter porn web sites automatically

Running in stealth and undetectable mode

Blocks all porn web sites through web proxies

Block applications, browsers, games.
With this feature, you can block other browsers and restrict the user to one browser only. So they can’t bypass the blocker with another browser.

Password protected, so that no one can change the blocker setting except you.

To get a website unblocked by Aobo Porn Filter. You can easily add it to the Aobo Porn Filter White List.

As parents, we are liable for providing as better environment for our children as possible, including material and mental conditions. In nowaday hi-tech world, the swift and slashing growing of Internet gives rise to junk culture which leading to imbalance climate of the cyber world: hot pornography and cold violence.

We have to admit that the Internet is an excellent information tool. However, it is a fact that 1 in 5 children will run into sex and violence content while hanging about on the Internet. It is, in all probability, that even someone who are not browse offensive content at all may come across the same as some unhealthy sites draw people to them even when they search for something as innocent as spam filters. Once exposed to porn, our kids will turn out to fall into a bad habit which results in a very poor addiction.

Therefore, how to create a comfortable online climate for your kids should be engaged into routine parenting work. According to some parenting theory, it covers work in two areas——communication and prevention.

The first thing you should do to safeguard your kids from harmful online content is to communicate with them. Only if be aware of the possible danger can they escape on their own initiative. Timely communication will effectively reduce the invaded danger.

Apart from the above, another main measure we should take is to make use of porn filter software that will aid you in preventing these harmful area altogether. Porn filter software is one type of parental control software. It enables you to control, restrict and record access and usage of computer and Intenet. You can control how long, and when users are allowed to use the computer, prevent the use of specific programs, block access to certain websites, restrict access to Windows functions, and more. This is relatively a better way to exclude the dangerous sites and programs.

Much to your chagrin if you are a parent, so too might your young child. Unless keep your children away from the Internet, take these steps to create a neither too hot nor too cold, neither erotic nor violent cyber space for your children.
